Tragically, on 28 September 2022, she passed away at AIG Hospital in Hyderabad after enduring a prolonged illness. In the wake of her demise, her son, Mahesh Babu, took to one of his social media platforms to announce her passing, accompanying his message with a photograph of her. He expressed, “A short while ago, Smt. Ghattamaneni Indira Devi, the wife of veteran actor Krishna and mother of Mahesh Babu, peacefully departed. She had valiantly fought against her illness for a substantial period of time.” As a young woman, Indira Devi contributed significantly to her community.

Krishna made the decision to reside with senior actor Naresh, the son of his late wife and renowned Telugu actress A G Vijaya Nirmala, following her passing on 28 June 2019.
