- Sharmila Tagore is the great-granddaughter of poet Rabindranath Tagore, with Rabindranath Tagore being her great-grandfather.
- Sharmila was originally born in Hyderabad, but she later spent a few years of her childhood residing in Kolkata.
- At the tender age of 13, she received an offer to work in the film industry.
- Sharmila struggled academically and had a low attendance record, leading her peers to perceive her as a negative influence. She found herself at a crossroads, contemplating between pursuing a career in films or continuing her education.
- Oindrila, her younger sister, was the first one in the family to venture into the world of acting. However, her acting career was limited to a single role as Mini in Tapan Sinha’s film Kabuliwala (1957).
- In the 1967 movie ‘An Evening in Paris’, Sharmila Tagore became the first Indian actress to don a bikini, instantly catapulting her to the status of a sex symbol in Hindi films.
