Controversies | • Dispute with Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala Initially, Karan Aujla was a good friend of Sidhu Moose Wala, but, later on, a war of words began between the two when Karan leaked many songs of Sidhu before the songs were officially recorded. In 2018, Karan Aujla released the songs- ‘Up & Down’ (along with Deep Jandu) and ‘Lafaafe’ (along with Sanam Bhullar); in the songs, Aujla allegedly defamed Sidhu. Thereafter, a cold war began between both the singers and in reply to the Aujla’s songs, Sidhu Moose Wala also released the song ‘Warning Shots’ in which he allegedly defamed Karan Aujla. Consequently, both used to reply to each other through social media platforms, songs, and live concerts. [3]The Tribune In a conversation with a media house, Elly Mangat, the then-colleague of both Sidhu and Aujla, stated that the rivalry between the two began when a video by Sidhu targeting Aujla was leaked to the management of Aujla who later threatened Sidhu. The incident provoked both to target each other. However, in an interview with a media house, Aujla praised the work of Sidhu and stated that he did not write the song ‘Lafaafe’ and said nothing about the rivalry. • Attacked by gangster Sukhpreet Singh Budda’s gang On 8 June 2019, Karan made headlines when he was attacked by gunshots in Surrey, British Columbia. Reportedly, Sukhpreet Singh Budda, a native of Kussa village of Moga district and self-appointed head of the Davinder Bambiha’s gang, allegedly attacked Karan who was accompanied by singer Deep Jandu and producer Sandeep Rehan, the owner of Rehan Records. According to a few media sources, during Sandeep Rehan’s visit to Punjab, India, the alleged gangster Sukhpreet Singh Budda intimidated him to pay a ransom of Rs 20 lakhs. On the contrary, he not only refused to pay the amount but also informed the Punjab police regarding the threats he received from Sukhpreet Singh Budda. Despite seeking help from the police, Sandeep received threats from his gang that he would be attacked by them anyhow. On 9 June 2019, taking responsibility for the attack on Karan and his friends, Davinder Bambiha’s gang posted on Facebook, which read, I want to tell you that as a dispute is going on between Sandeep Rehaan and Karan Aujla (Rehan Records) with our brother Sukhpreet Budda, due to that they got z+ security to put pressure. That security has not accompanied them to Canada. Our brother Sukhpreet Budda, to teach them a lesson, made two attempts to attack them in a day in Canada.” Soon after Sukhpreet’s gang took the responsibility for the attack, another Facebook page operated by the gangster’s name denied the news of the attack and claimed that the attack was not carried out by Sukhpreet Budda’s gang. [4]The Times of India However, on 9 June 2019, Karan, through an Instagram story, claimed that news of the attack on him was completely baseless and it was a rumour, which was spread by the news channels. • Fined for violating traffic rules • Violated the security rules during his visit to the Central Jail in Ludhiana • Summoned for making derogatory remarks about women in the song “Sharab” • Attacked for singing notorious songs |
