Some Lesser Known Facts About Anurup Bhattacharya

  • In 2007, Anurup Bhattacharya and Sagarika Bhattacharya relocated to Norway. However, their family underwent an investigation by the child welfare service that lasted for several months. Eventually, in May 2011, the authorities decided to remove their children, Abhigyan (3 years old) and Aishwarya (1 year old), due to concerns regarding the parents’ ability to care for them. The children were placed with a foster family in Norway.
  • Sagarika faced charges due to various reasons, including objections to her practice of feeding the baby by hand, allowing the children to sleep in the same bed as their parents (a common practice in Indian households), and providing inadequate clothing and toys for the children. Additionally, there was an accusation that Sagarika had slapped her child, although this incident was an isolated occurrence.
  • After seeking counseling services, the Bhattacharyas had their children’s custody transferred to Anurup’s brother due to a diplomatic dispute. However, the children were eventually reunited with their mother, causing a diplomatic conflict between India and Norway.
  • In 2012, Anurup initiated divorce proceedings by alleging that his spouse had a significant psychological ailment, which he had deliberately kept hidden in order to secure custody of their children.

Anurup expressed that the intervention of the Child Welfare Services was not solely influenced by cultural bias. His wife suffers from a significant psychological issue, exhibiting extreme immaturity similar to that of a teenager. The recent media attention has greatly affected her, leading to a distorted self-perception. Anurup attempted to shield and fulfill her desires, but a shocking incident last night compelled him to leave their shared residence and pursue a legal separation. This occurrence is not an isolated event, as Sagarika has previously assaulted him on multiple occasions, according to Anurup.

  • Additionally, he asserted that the children, who were deeply affected by the situation, hesitated to return to their mother and engaged in lengthy conversations with him via Skype.
  • After returning to India in 2011, Anurup alleged that his son, Avigyan, who exhibited symptoms similar to autism, had experienced a deterioration in his mental state due to being in foster care. Anurup mentioned that Avigyan now frequently banged his head against the wall. As a result, Avigyan was enrolled in a local kindergarten program.

During an interview, the speaker observed a concerning change in Abhigyan’s behavior. It was noted that his head banging has escalated and he has become increasingly stubborn and unyielding. Although he now engages in eye contact, he has also begun to physically harm his younger sister, which was previously uncharacteristic of him.

  • Scheduled for release on March 17, 2023, the film Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway stars Rani Mukerji as Sagarika and Anirban Bhattacharya as Anurup. Anirban Bhattacharya’s portrayal of the character Anurup is truly outstanding.
  • Following the release of the trailer, the hashtag #BoycottGermany gained popularity in India as it reminded people of the ongoing legal battle of Bhavesh and Dhara Shah, who are striving to regain custody of their child in Germany. Currently, Twitter users are actively trending the hashtag #BoycottGermany to express their dissatisfaction with Germany, as the Indian couple found themselves embroiled in a dispute during their time in the country.
