  • Umesh Pal played a crucial role as a witness in the murder case involving Raju Pal, who was a candidate from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). Raju’s victory over Ashraf, also known as Khalid Azim, the younger brother of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, in the 2004 by-election in UP sparked a political rivalry between them. On January 25, 2005, while Raju was returning home from Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital in Allahabad, his Qualis car was overtaken by another vehicle. A group of armed men emerged from the car and launched an attack on Raju, resulting in his death. Sandeep Yadav and Devi Lal, two other individuals, were also shot during the incident. Atiq Ahmed was accused of being the mastermind behind this murder.
  • In April 2019, Umesh Pal joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of minister Satya Pal Singh Baghel. Umesh allegedly tried to obtain a ticket from the SP to run for the Phaphamau constituency by donating Rs. 20 lacs to the party fund, but his request was denied. Some sources claim that he even gave Rs. 5 crores to an SP leader who then instructed him to contest the elections from the Koraon constituency, which is reserved for the Scheduled Castes, instead of Phaphamau. In order to do so, a forged Dhangar caste certificate was created for Umesh under the name of Krishna Kumar Dhangar. After failing to secure a ticket from the Samajwadi Party, Umesh left and rejoined the Bharatiya Janata Party prior to the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections.
