In the 2022 UPSC CSE examination, Garima Lohia, an Indian woman, achieved the remarkable feat of securing AIR 2.

Following her father’s passing in 2015, Garima’s mother took on the responsibility of raising Garima and her siblings single-handedly. In various interviews, Garima attributes her mother as her greatest source of inspiration, highlighting how she steadfastly supported her throughout her preparations for the UPSC CSE examination.

In Garima’s household, there are 13 members living together in a joint family. The main source of income for the family is Garima’s grandfather.

In 2020, during the Covid-19 lockdown, Garima embarked on her preparation journey for the Civil Services Examination. While many UPSC aspirants opt for coaching classes, she chose a different path and decided to study from the comfort of her home, utilizing resources such as books and the internet. Nonetheless, she did enroll in a test series to adequately prepare for the mains.

On her initial try, she was unable to pass her prelims, but she persevered and managed to pass the examination on her second attempt, achieving a score of 1063 marks.

In May 2023, the UPSC CSE results were declared, and it was Ishita Kishore (AIR-1), Garima Lohia (AIR-2), Uma Harathi N (AIR-3), and Smriti Mishra (AIR-4) who emerged as the top four achievers, capturing the attention of media outlets.
