Some Lesser Known Facts About Ritu Rathee Taneja

  • Ritu Rathee Taneja, an Indian Pilot and YouTube Vlogger, gained fame through her appearances in the daily vlogs of her husband, Gaurav Taneja (Flying Beast).
  • Ritu, born and raised in a middle class family in Haryana, India, had always dreamt of becoming a pilot. However, she faced numerous challenges in breaking free from the societal stereotypes surrounding her. Despite this, her parents played a crucial role in supporting her education, even though her relatives believed she should prioritize marriage over education. Ritu excelled in Maths and Science, proving that she was not meant for a desk job. While engineering was not initially on her radar, a friend’s suggestion sparked her interest in becoming a pilot. As a result, she decided to pursue pilot training in Arizona, USA. Although becoming a pilot was not a childhood dream, once Ritu took to the skies, her passion for flying was ignited.
  • Defying stereotypes and breaking boundaries, she applied for training programs in the US. After eight months, she was accepted into a prestigious flying school overseas. Her parents were hesitant about sending her alone to a foreign country, and the major obstacle was arranging the substantial funds needed for her course. In a bold move, Ritu asked her father to use the money he had saved for her wedding to finance her education instead, promising to make them proud one day. She excelled both academically and in her motor skills. However, societal pressure played a significant role in her journey. Convincing her father to support her training was a challenging task. As the first girl in her family to travel abroad alone, it was a difficult decision for her parents. The photo depicts Ritu Rathee Taneja during her training in the United States.
  • After finishing her training, she returned to India but struggled to find employment for nearly a year. Additionally, she experienced the devastating loss of her mother due to a brain haemorrhage, and her family relied on loans to survive. Determined to improve their situation, she committed herself to studying for over seven hours a day while also working part-time to support her family financially. During an interview, she shared her hardships and explained, “I made the decision to accept a job that paid Rs 12k and commute daily from Gurgaon to Delhi on my Karizma bike. I have always had a tomboyish personality.” Eventually, she relocated to Ahmedabad for a higher-paying job that offered around 25k. As the aviation industry began to recover, job opportunities emerged, making her daily routine even more hectic. She dedicated her time from 9 pm to 3 am to studying after completing her work, often squeezing in naps between study sessions and work shifts. Unfortunately, she was unable to socialize or spend time with her colleagues.
  • After a year had passed, she received an enticing offer to become a co-pilot for a prestigious airline in India. This opportunity marked a turning point in her life, a moment that would alter her path forever. Over the course of nearly four years, she navigated the skies on approximately 60 flights each month, steadily honing her skills until she was eventually promoted to the esteemed position of Captain. When speaking about her deep-seated passion for flying, she expressed, “Flying aircraft is more than just a career for me; it is my true passion. Whether I am gracefully soaring through the heavens, executing a precise landing, or closely monitoring ever-changing weather conditions, each flight presents its own unique set of challenges that I wholeheartedly embrace. The sheer unpredictability of flying is what truly enthralls me, constantly pushing me to assess my procedures, refine my techniques, and bring forth the very best version of myself.”
