Additionally, she experienced the devastating loss of her mother due to a brain haemorrhage, and her family relied on loans to survive. Determined to improve their situation, she committed herself to studying for over seven hours a day while also working part-time to support her family financially. During an interview, she shared her hardships and explained, “I made the decision to accept a job that paid Rs 12k and commute daily from Gurgaon to Delhi on my Karizma bike. I have always had a tomboyish personality.” Eventually, she relocated to Ahmedabad for a higher-paying job that offered around 25k. As the aviation industry began to recover, job opportunities emerged, making her daily routine even more hectic. She dedicated her time from 9 pm to 3 am to studying after completing her work, often squeezing in naps between study sessions and work shifts. Unfortunately, she was unable to socialize or spend time with her colleagues.

• After a year had passed, she received an enticing offer to become a co-pilot for a prestigious airline in India. This opportunity marked a turning point in her life, a moment that would alter her path forever. Over the course of nearly four years, she navigated the skies on approximately 60 flights each month, steadily honing her skills until she was eventually promoted to the esteemed position of Captain. When speaking about her deep-seated passion for flying, she expressed, “Flying aircraft is more than just a career for me; it is my true passion. Whether I am gracefully soaring through the heavens, executing a precise landing, or closely monitoring ever-changing weather conditions, each flight presents its own unique set of challenges that I wholeheartedly embrace. The sheer unpredictability of flying is what truly enthralls me, constantly pushing me to assess my procedures, refine my techniques, and bring forth the very best version of myself.”

• Ritu Rathee Taneja and Gaurav Taneja first crossed paths during a quarterly training session organized by the airlines, where they were both pilots. Gaurav, who was already a captain in the airline at the time, caught Ritu’s attention. After a year of dating, they tied the knot on 5 February 2015.
