Despite being a Mumbaikar, Zaheer began his career in first-class cricket playing for Baroda.

At the age of 17, it was his father who first noticed his bowling skills and brought him to Mumbai.

He had originally planned to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering, but his coach’s suggestion prompted him to abandon his studies in order to fully devote himself to cricket.

In 2014, when he joined the Surrey County team, his bowling skills were reignited. He later continued to showcase his talent with Worcestershire.

With 237 wickets, he terrorized left-handed batsmen, making him the third highest wicket taker against them in Test matches.

In all forms of international cricket, he managed to knock out South African batsman Greame Smith on 13 occasions.
