Controversy Sanatana Dharma Remarks Row: Udhayanidhi Stalin caught up in a controversy due to his controversial remarks about Sanatana Dharma that he made during a press conference on 2 September 2023. In his statements, he compared Sanatana Dharma to diseases like dengue and malaria and argued that it should be “eliminated” due to his belief that it was against the principles of social justice. On 6 September 2023, an FIR was lodged against Udhayanidhi in Uttar Pradesh for allegedly offending religious sentiments. Despite the criticism Udhayanidhi received for his remarks, a few politicians, including Priyank Kharge and Udit Raj, publicly voiced their support for him. [3]Scroll Udhayanidhi further made derogatory remarks about Sanatana Dharma using an “example” at an event on 20 September 2023. He alleged that although numerous celebrities had been invited to visit the new Parliament building on 19 September 2023, Murmu had not received an invitation. He claimed that Droupadi was excluded from the invitation due to her status as a widow and her belonging to a tribal community. [4]Hindustan Times At the event, Udhayanidhi Stalin said,

Yesterday, some Hindi actors came and visited the new Parliament but our President was not invited. Why? Because Droupadi Murmu is from a tribal community. This is what we call ‘Sanatan Dharma’.”
