Some Lesser Known Facts About Udhayanidhi Stalin

Udhayanidhi Stalin, renowned for his work as a Tamil filmmaker, actor, and politician, holds the distinction of being the sole son of MK Stalin, the chief of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) political party.

Udhayanidhi Stalin made his entry into the Tamil film industry, also known as Kollywood, by establishing his production company Red Giant Movies in 2008. His debut production was the action comedy film “Kuruvi” in the same year. Despite the film’s underwhelming performance, Udhayanidhi remained determined to invest in movies. During the initial years of his production company, they ventured into high-budget films like “Manmadan Ambu” (2010), featuring Kamal Haasan, and “7aum Arivu” (2011), directed by AR Murugadoss.

In the year 2012, Udhayanidhi made his first appearance as an actor on the silver screen in the Tamil-language romantic comedy film titled ‘Oru Kal Oru Kannadi’. In the film, he portrayed the character of Saravanan, a young man who is unemployed. Udhayanidhi’s performance in the movie was highly appreciated, earning him the prestigious Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut (South).

In the Tamil remake of the Bollywood courtroom drama film Jolly LLB, titled Manithan, he portrayed the protagonist ‘Sakthivel’.

The Karunanidhi family and their relatives have a strong presence in both cinema and politics. Udhayanidhi’s grandfather, Karunanidhi, had a passion for Tamil literature, poetry, and drama, and worked as a scriptwriter during his younger days. Udhayanidhi’s father, MK Stalin, also tried his hand at acting in the late 1980s, appearing in two Tamil movies and two Tamil TV soap operas. Udhayanidhi’s wife, Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi, is a talented writer and film director.

Udhyanidhi holds his grandfather, M Karunanidhi, in high regard as his life’s role model. Karunanidhi, a highly respected politician and leader, held the position of chief minister of Tamil Nadu for a remarkable five terms spanning from 1969 to 2011. Sadly, Karunanidhi passed away at the age of 94 in 2018 due to a chronic illness. In New Delhi, the former Indian Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, warmly welcomed Karunanidhi.
