Controversies | • In January 2022, the actor attracted controversy for a derogatory tweet to Indian badminton player Saina Nehwal when he was responding to Saina’s tweet about PM Narendra Modi’s security breach in Punjab. Following this, National Commission for Women chairperson Rekha Sharma took to Twitter to deamand action against the Tamil actor. On 11 January 2022, he took to Twitter to share a letter of apology to Saina Nehwal and said “You’ll Always Be My Champion.” On 12 January 2022, the Cyber Crime Police of Hyderabad filed cases against the actor based on a complaint by one Prerna Thiruvaipati related to his tweet to Saina Nehwal for publishing obscene material in electronic form, as per Section 67 of The Information Technology Act, and for words intended to insult the modesty of a woman, as per Section 509 of the IPC.
