- In 2016, he was honored with the Best Feature Film award at the Raintree International Film Festival for his directorial debut in Tamil, ‘Narai Ezhudhum Suyasaridham.’ Additionally, he received the Best Dialogue Writer award for the Tamil film ‘Vikram Vedha’ in 2017.
- During an interview, he shared his experience of working with Indian superstar Rajinikanth in the Tamil film ‘Kaala’ (2018). He expressed that upon discovering he would be playing Rajini sir’s son, a sense of fear started to creep in. It wasn’t exactly a feeling of happiness for him. He acknowledged Rajini sir’s ability to not just act, but also create an entire atmosphere that sets the tone for each scene. Additionally, the pressure of working with a superstar added to the intensity. After a particular shot, when Sir was supposed to leave, he noticed the director capturing a close-up of him. To his surprise, Sir pulled up a chair and sat in front of him. Despite feeling nervous and on the verge of tears, he managed to regain his composure as it was a pivotal moment that could determine the success or failure of his performance. When the shot finally ended, he expected to hear the word “cut,” but instead, he found himself still standing there. That’s when he noticed Rajini sir in his peripheral vision. Rajini sir embraced him, kissed him, and commended his performance, assuring him that he had done well. This heartwarming moment left a lasting impression on K. Manikandan, who had the privilege of working with Rajinikanth.
