- In the 2020 Union Public Service Commission Civil Services Examination, Shubham Kumar emerged as the top-ranked candidate, securing the All India Rank 1.
- Upon finishing his education, he achieved the 219th position in the engineering entrance examination and was granted admission to IIT Bombay. During his time at IIT Bombay, he assumed the role of General Secretary for Social and Cultural affairs. Under his leadership, Hostel 6 at IIT Bombay triumphed in the Cultural Cup competition for the first time.

It is worth noting that Amir Subhani, the additional chief secretary of Bihar government, had also secured the top position in the UPSC CSE exam back in 1987. After a span of 33 years, Shubham emerged as the top scorer from Bihar in the UPSC exam.
