  • Maitreyi Ramakrishnan hails from Sri Lankan Tamil roots, with her family seeking refuge in Canada following the Sri Lankan Civil War (1983-2009).
  • Maitreyi, having grown up in a multicultural setting, received training in both Bharatanatyam and Ballet dance styles. Additionally, she has acquired piano-playing skills.
  • In grade 10, she embarked on her acting journey by participating in school plays. Her debut role was as ‘Urleen’ in the play “Footloose.” As she progressed to grade 12, she expanded her creative horizons by taking up the roles of playwright, director, and producer. These newfound responsibilities were assigned as part of her drama classes.
  • At the same time, she joined a Jazz band and contributed her piano skills to the musical ensemble.
  • Maitreyi’s deep affection for Disney and Marvel comics initially led her to aspire for a career in animation. However, during her final year of school, she chose a different path and decided to pursue acting instead. Reflecting on her decision, she explained that what started as a casual involvement in after-school plays and musicals soon transformed into a profound passion. She came to realize that dedicating herself to this art form would not only bring immense joy but also enrich her entire being.

  • Mindy Kaling handpicked Maitreyi from a pool of 15,000 applicants who tried out for the role in the show, Never Have I Ever, in 2019. To audition for the show, Maitreyi improvised a tape at a nearby library using her mother’s camera, with her best friend encouraging her to give it a shot. Subsequently, she was requested to send four additional videos, following which her screen test was conducted in Los Angeles.
