On May 9, 2023, a significant number of demonstrators managed to enter the Lahore cantonment and caused extensive damage to the residence of the Corps Commander, also known as Jinnah House. These protests ensued after Ghani, defying the orders of General Asim Munir, the COAS of Pakistan, declined to authorize the soldiers to open fire on unarmed civilians.
- Afterwards, a video circulated widely on Twitter depicting Ghani’s efforts to discourage the protestors from launching an attack on his residence. The demonstrators, who were expressing their discontent over Imran Khan’s arrest, looted numerous valuable possessions from Ghani’s house, including kitchen appliances, furniture, and showpieces from the drawing room.
