Sidhu Moose Wala, a well-known Punjabi artist, was tragically killed on 29 May 2022 in the village of Jawaharke, Mansa district, Punjab. He was traveling in his Thar jeep to visit his relatives when unidentified assailants attacked him. Alongside two other men, Sidhu Moose Wala endured an onslaught of 30 rounds fired at their vehicle, resulting in injuries to all three individuals. Sadly, Sidhu Moose Wala was pronounced dead upon arrival at Mansa’s Civil Hospital. The responsibility for this heinous act was claimed by Satinder Singh, also known as Goldy Brar, a Canadian gangster with Punjabi origins and an associate of Lawrence Bishnoi, another notorious criminal. Goldy Brar asserted that the shooting was executed by his “Punjab Module” gang. Subsequently, Punjab police confirmed Bishnoi’s involvement in the murder. Prior to the 38th anniversary of Operation Blue Star in June 2022, security measures for 424 individuals in Punjab were reduced or eliminated entirely. Unfortunately, Sidhu Moose Wala was among those affected. Initially, the state government had provided him with four commandoes for protection, but as preparations for the anniversary intensified, his security was diminished to two commandos. At the time of the incident, Sidhu Moose Wala was not traveling in the bulletproof vehicle provided by the government but was accompanied by his two private security guards.

Rivalry Between Vicky Middukhera and Sidhu Moose Wala

According to certain media sources on May 30, 2022, speculation arose that the murder of Sidhu Moose Wala may have been connected to the killing of Vikramjit, also known as Vicky Middukhera. It was alleged that Vicky and Sidhu Moose Wala had a rivalry, and in August 2021, Vicky Middukhera was pursued and fatally shot in Mohali, Punjab. Consequently, Sidhu Moose Wala’s father filed an FIR at a local police station, claiming that gangsters were threatening his son’s life for extortion purposes. This claim was also corroborated by Punjabi singer Mika Singh.

Inquiry into the Murder Case of Sidhu Moose Wala

On May 30, 2022, the Punjab Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann, announced the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the murder case of Sidhu Moose Wala. The commission, chaired by a sitting judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, will oversee the inquiry. During the initial day of the investigation, the police discovered bullets from an AN-94 Russian assault rifle and a pistol at the crime scene. On the same day, a group of protesters affiliated with the Indian National Congress attacked the residence of Arvind Kejriwal, the president of the Aam Aadmi Party, in Delhi. They accused the AAP-led Punjab government of negligence for reducing the security measures for Moosewala. In a media conversation, Anil Kumar, the Delhi Congress president, expressed this viewpoint.
