Replacing the injured Mushtaq Ahmed, Afridi began his career as a leg spinner in the Sameer Cup 1996-97.

In 1996, against Sri Lanka in Nairobi, he achieved the 3rd fastest ODI century in just 37 balls, utilizing Sachin Tendulkar’s bat.

Corey Anderson and AB de Villiers shattered his record for the fastest century in ODI, which he held for a remarkable 19 years. Anderson achieved the feat in just 36 balls in 2014, while de Villiers outdid him, taking only 31 balls in 2015.

He made his Test Debut in 1998, taking 5 wickets for 52 runs against Australia.
