Remarkably, 64% of his T20I wickets result from catches.

  • Next up was the highly anticipated match of the tournament: the finals against India, featuring renowned players like Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Yuvraj Singh. Pakistan took the bat first and managed to put an impressive 338 runs on the scoreboard. In response, India’s performance started to crumble right from the start, losing key players Rohit and Virat within nine overs. However, the reliable duo of Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh, known for their exceptional ability to chase, stepped onto the field. All of India’s hopes rested on this partnership, presenting a formidable challenge for Pakistan to overcome. Both teams proceeded with caution.
  • In the 13th over, Shadab Khan made his entrance. He successfully restricted the opposition to just four runs in his first five deliveries. However, it was the final ball that changed the course of the match. Yuvraj Singh opted to defend the ball using his pads, but to his surprise, it spun unexpectedly and struck his pad before anything else. Initially, the umpire declared it as ‘Not Out’. Nevertheless, Shadab chose to challenge the decision by requesting a review. His bold move proved fruitful as Pakistan successfully dismissed the formidable Yuvraj Singh.
  • The entire Pakistani crowd erupted with joy when Pakistan not only emerged victorious in the match, but also claimed the coveted champions trophy. Despite Pakistan’s loss by eight wickets in that match, Shadab’s remarkable contribution was overshadowed by a minor injury that led to his exclusion from the subsequent match against Afghanistan. However, Pakistan emerged victorious in that game.
  • Shadab Khan made his comeback in the Asia Cup finals against India but unfortunately, he couldn’t live up to the expectations and failed to take any wickets. As a result, Pakistan lost the match by nine wickets. Adding to his disappointment, Shadab was also mocked by his fans for his new goatee hairstyle. However, on September 14, 2018, Saj Sadiq shared a photo showcasing Shadab’s revamped cricket appearance with the hashtags #NewLook and #Cricket.

  • However, this time he showcased his prowess more with a bat than a ball, scoring two fifties in two tests and taking three crucial wickets, including the dismissal of their key opener Alastair Cook. Shadab feels truly grateful for all the blessings and acknowledges that this is just the beginning of his career. His main focus is on continuously improving his skills every time he steps onto the field. He hopes to see positive outcomes from his efforts in the future.
  • Furthermore, I acknowledge that I have been selected to take Yasir Shah’s place in the squad. I am fully aware that replicating his exceptional performances for Pakistan is an insurmountable task. Nevertheless, I want to assure you that I will exert every effort to make a meaningful contribution to our team’s triumph during this tour. Prior to our arrival in England, I had the privilege of receiving invaluable guidance from Mushtaq Ahmed, who dedicated significant time and effort to enhance my bowling skills. In November 2018, they suffered another loss, this time by 47 runs against New Zealand. However, amidst their struggles, Shadab stood out by taking three wickets in the 42nd over, dismissing the top-order batters in just four deliveries. • In October 2018, Pakistan showcased their complete dominance in T20 cricket by sweeping the Kiwis 3-0 in Dubai. Shadab, once again, displayed his brilliance by taking three wickets in the series, including the crucial dismissal of Kane Williamson in the 3rd T20.
  • The ICC Men’s World Cup 2019 in England & Wales was approaching when Shadab Khan, a wrist spinner, was selected for the 15-man Pakistan squad. However, he had to be replaced by Yasir Shah for the limited-overs series against England just before the mega-event due to an illness. The Pakistan Cricket Board released a statement stating that Shadab Khan had been diagnosed with a virus and would be unable to participate in the series against England. Medical tests revealed that Shadab would require at least four weeks of treatment and rest.

  • According to historical data, Pakistan has never emerged victorious against their fierce rivals India in any ICC match. This recurring phenomenon continued to trouble them as they suffered yet another defeat, this time by a margin of 89 runs (as per the DLS method). Disappointingly, Shadab Khan failed to take any wickets in this particular match.
  • Pakistan made a strong comeback by securing a comprehensive victory in their next match against South Africa, posting a total of 308 runs on the scoreboard. Shadab Khan played a crucial role by taking the vital wickets of Quinton De Kock (his 50th wicket in ODI), Aiden Markram, and Rassie van der Dussen. Nevertheless, Shadab’s selection proved to be a worthy decision as he didn’t disappoint the selectors and performed to the best of his abilities.
  • His primary goal was to solidify his position as a valuable all-rounder in Test cricket. Despite only taking 12 wickets in five test matches since his debut in 2017, he acknowledged the importance of improving both his bowling and batting skills. Additionally, the test squad welcomes back Mohammad Irfan, who holds the title for the tallest player in international cricket history at 7.1 feet, after a six-year absence.
  • Pakistan experienced a rare defeat at the hands of Australia, losing all matches in both the T20s and the tests. However, they managed to secure a victory in their practice game against Cricket Australia XI, thanks to Shadab’s exceptional performance, taking three significant wickets. Additionally, this series witnessed the emergence of Marnus Labuschagne, a highly talented batsman from Australia. Following the series, Labuschagne began focusing on improving his batting abilities.
  • In July 2020, the PCB announced that Shadab Khan, along with Haider Ali and Haris Rauf, had tested positive for COVID-19, just before their England tour comprising of three tests and T20. Despite not showing any symptoms, Shadab was sent for self-isolation. In August, he returned to the T20 squad against England and achieved a milestone of 50 wickets by dismissing Moeen Ali for 8.
  • Shadab Khan made his debut as captain of the Pakistan cricket team in a T20 match against New Zealand on 18 December 2020, as Babar Azam was absent. • During the last T20 match at Napier, Khan suffered another injury in his left thigh, which prevented him from participating in the entire test series against the host team. Team doctor Sohail Saleem mentioned that after the six-week recovery period, the medical panel will review and examine the injury to decide if Shadab can return to competitive cricket. Unfortunately, Shadab’s inability to pass the fitness test led to his omission from the series against South Africa, which consisted of two test matches and three T20s.
  • In April, he made a comeback to the squad during the ODI series against South Africa. During the match, he scored 33 runs and led his team to a triumphant three-wicket victory. The players are eager and filled with enthusiasm to compete, especially the talented young individuals who have been longing to pursue their passion. While touring England has always presented challenges, our recent performances have been highly encouraging. Our goal is to maintain this positive momentum and strive for even greater achievements. It’s worth mentioning that our previous tours in 2016 and 2018 were successful, resulting in our victory in the Champions Trophy and commendable performances in the World Cup. The unwavering support from the crowd, including a significant number of Pakistani spectators, has always been uplifting. Unfortunately, due to the current circumstances, they will be missed this time. Nevertheless, we are determined to give our best and provide entertaining spectacles for the viewers at home during these challenging times.
  • Pakistan once again suffered a whitewash against England in the ODIs and ended up losing the T20 series 2-1. Shadab Khan stood out as the standout bowler for Pakistan, taking five wickets. However, his performance as a batsman faced criticism from former captain Ramiz Raja. Raja expressed his confusion regarding Shadab’s role as a batsman, questioning whether he is expected to be a savior or a power hitter. Despite having ample opportunities, Shadab failed to capitalize on them and his batting has been consistently below par lately. Raja suggested that it would be more beneficial for Shadab to follow the example of Hardik Pandya, who is renowned for his ability to score quick fifties as a power hitter. Unfortunately, Shadab’s power-hitting skills have declined, which is disappointing considering his young age. This should be his prime time, but his batting performance is not meeting the expectations. It is crucial for Shadab to put in significant effort and work on improving his game. Considering the current batting lineup, Shadab’s value would increase if he focuses on becoming a power hitter.
  • Following his absence from the West Indies tour in August 2021, the series ultimately ended in a draw. However, he swiftly returned to the T20 side, where Pakistan emerged victorious in the 2nd T20, while the remaining T20 matches were unfortunately canceled due to rain.
