Some Lesser Known Facts About Axar Patel

  • Instead of aspiring to be a cricketer, Axar’s true ambition was to become a mechanical engineer.
  • At the age of 15, his friend Dhiren Kansara was the first to recognize his cricketing talent and encouraged him to participate in an inter-school tournament.
  • Due to an error made by his school principal, his first name, originally spelled as “Akshar,” was mistakenly recorded as “Axar” on his school leaving certificate. Consequently, he has been utilizing this altered spelling ever since.
  • Concerned about his son’s physical abilities in the early stages of his cricketing career, his father decided to enroll him in a gym to ensure he could handle the game’s physical demands.
  • Initially, he embarked on his cricket journey as a batsman; however, in order to enhance his prospects of representing India, he transitioned into a bowler.
  • After being selected for the Gujarat U-19 team in 2010, he encountered a mishap. Unfortunately, he injured his leg at home during the Diwali break, forcing him to withdraw from the entire season. Initially, he contemplated giving up cricket, but his grandmother’s desire to witness him playing on TV motivated him to stage a comeback.
  • During his first appearance in the 2012 Ranji Trophy season, he participated in just one match.
