• Sarath Babu, an Indian actor, predominantly appeared in Tamil and Telugu films. Throughout his five-decade-long career, he contributed to over 200 films. His breakthrough came in 1977 with the Tamil movie Pattina Pravesam, propelling him to fame. Sarath Babu gained recognition for his notable performances in Tamil films such as Mullum Malarum (1978), Nenjathai Killathe (1980), and Annamalai (1992).

• He was raised in a prosperous family in Amadalavalasa, Andhra Pradesh.

• Since childhood, Sarath Babu had a strong aspiration to become a police officer. Unfortunately, during his time in college, he developed shortsightedness, which prevented him from pursuing his dream as clear vision is a mandatory requirement for joining the police service.

• Sarath’s father desired for him to become a part of their hotel business, yet Sarath lacked any enthusiasm for the family enterprise.

• In April 2023, there were rumors circulating about the death of Sarath. Nevertheless, Sarath’s family members denied these rumors and reassured that Sarath’s health was actually improving and he was on the road to recovery. When addressing the media, Sarath’s sister stated that the news being spread on social media regarding Sarath Babu was false. She informed that Sarath Babu had shown signs of improvement and had been moved to a different room. She expressed optimism that he would fully recover and be able to interact with the media in the near future. She kindly requested everyone not to trust any information shared on social media platforms.

• Sarath Babu took his final breath on May 22, 2023 at AIG Hospital, succumbing to multiple organ failure. Following his demise, AIG Hospital in Hyderabad issued a statement stating that Sarath was admitted on April 20, 2023, in critical condition due to multiple Myeloma, leading to the failure of several organs. Due to his weakened immune system, a team of specialists provided extensive care, including mechanical ventilator support for his lungs and dialysis for his kidneys. Despite the utmost efforts in resuscitation, Sarath unfortunately passed away. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and fans during this challenging time. After his passing, Sarath’s body was kept at the Film Chamber in Hyderabad, allowing his friends and fans to bid their final farewells. Subsequently, his remains were transported to his residence in Chennai. On May 23, 2023, Sarath Babu was cremated and laid to rest in Chennai.

• Sarath’s demise has brought immense sorrow to many South Indian actors. Kamal Haasan, expressing his feelings through a tweet, described Sarath Babu as an extraordinary actor and an exceptional friend who has left this world. The memories of our collaborations on the big screen now remain as fleeting shadows in my mind. It was my Guru, Balachander, who introduced him to me in Tamil cinema. Sarath Babu’s portrayal of numerous iconic characters throughout his career will always be remembered. Today, the film industry mourns the loss of a gifted actor. This is my sincere tribute to him.
